  Unique Opportunity to Tour the Boston Athenaeum!

The Boston Athenaeum is one of the oldest and most distinguished independent libraries in the United States. Founded in 1807 by members of the Anthology Society, its was to form “an establishment... combining the advantages of a public library and containing the great works of learning and science in all languages.” Today, its collections comprise over half a million volumes, with particular strengths in Boston history, New England state and local history, biography, English and American literature, and the fine and decorative arts. The Athenæum supports a dynamic art gallery, and sponsors a lively variety of events such as lectures and concerts. It also serves as a stimulating center for discussions among scholars, bibliophiles, and a variety of community interest groups.

ypically closed except to members, this tour will provide an opportunity for you to view the collections with friends from the area. Go to http://www.bostonathenaeum.org for more information and for a preview of what you will see and learn on the tour. Bus departure is scheduled for 9:30 am and will leave from Cobb Corner in Stoughton, near the Ami Flower Shop beside the Mobil station (please make special note of this departure and return location!). The tour starts promptly at 10:00 am and we are due back to Cobb Corner at approximately noon.


Cost is $12/member and $14/non-member and includes transportation to and from the Anthenaeum plus the guided tour. This trip is open to the public (children 12 and over accompanied by an adult) and limited to 15 participants - so sign up now!
