January 2008
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
It’s hard to believe that another year has flown by and it’s time for our annual Adopt-a-Book fundraiser! As so many of you already know, adopting a book at the Sharon Public Library is the ideal gift for that very special friend or relative. In addition, your donation supplements the library’s meager funding.
You may select a book from the library’s current collection to adopt in honor of a loved one. If you are uncertain about which book to choose or do not have time to get to the Library, simply tell us the category that is most appropriate and we will select a book for your adoption. We will send you a note advising of the book selection as well as sending a note and certificate to your gift recipient acknowledging your adoption. We will also insert a bookplate in the book.
With the biggest gift-giving holidays just behind us, think in terms of birthdays, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Passover, graduations, weddings, Mother’s and Father’s Days, spring and summer! You might even adopt a book in honor of that person who has gone out of their way to do something special for you as a “thank you” gift. Many Sharonites have adopted books in memory of prominent citizens, family members and friends. We have adopted books for former Sharonites and relatives living far away – Alaska, Washington State and many mid west locations. Each bookplate is personalized with a dedication and includes both your name and the name of the person being honored or remembered.
We encourage both the donors and recipients to read the chosen book and many have told us how much they enjoyed the selection and the thrill of seeing the bookplate in place. The funds raised through the Adopt-a-Book program are always put to hard work providing necessities the library could not afford otherwise. Perhaps you sat in one of the new chairs in the reading area to browse through a book or magazine or maybe you noticed the little people’s tables and chairs in the Children’s area -- all came from funds raised by the Friends.
We thank the Sharon Credit Union, the Dedham Institute for Savings, and Shaw’s Supermarkets for their generous sponsorship. Because of their support, all the monies received through the Adopt-a-Book program go directly to the purchase of needed materials or programming for the library. Remember, the Adopt-a-Book program is open to everyone and is available 12 months a year. You may also use this form to make a contribution to the Friend’s general fund without adopting a book.
Sincerely yours,
Lori Rosenthal
