Welcome to the
Friends of the Sharon Library
We welcome everyone to visit - members and non-members, Sharon residents and non-residents alike. We hope you will find our information about upcoming trips, the Annual Book Sale and our Adopt-A-Book Campaign helpful. Here you will find out how we got started, how we raise funds and who benefits from those funds.

Looking for ways to help support the Sharon Public Library? Let me make a suggestion or two. Our Adopt-a-Book campaign is underway. Adopting a book on someone’s behalf is a great way to give a gift and support the library at the same time. With your donation, you can select a book currently in the library’s collection (or have us select one based on your specifications) to adopt in a loved one’s name. We will send a certificate to your gift recipient acknowledging your adoption and we will insert a bookplate into the book. Thanks to our generous sponsors, all of the donations go directly to supporting the library. So stop by the library, pick up an Adopt-a-Book form, or click here to print one out from our website, and get adopting!
Another way to help out the library is to join the Friends board. The more members we have on the board, the more fun we can have. Board members have the opportunity to:
Socialize with other library supporters
Participate and plan fun, cultural activities
Conduct fundraisers, including the Adopt-a-Book Program and
the Annual Used Book SaleEstablish sponsorship priorities of library resources and activities
Write articles for Friends newsletters or local publications
If you're interested in joining the Board, please contact me, Lori Rosenthal, at lrosenthal@lasell.edu or 781-793-0466.
Museum Partner Highlight – the Museum of Fine Arts
Beat the cold weather and take a walk on the wild side to view a unique shoe exhibit at the MFA (through March 23.) I learned to look at footwear in entirely new ways as I explored the relationships between shoes and other artwork. The exhibit cleverly pairs shoes with paintings and sculptures from the same time periods to explore the time, place, and culture of the people who wore them. Not interested in shoes? The exhibit of Sumo paintings from Japan may be more your style! Sumo wrestlers were the superheros of Japanese society in the 18th and 19th centuries and, thus, were frequently portrayed in art. This exhibit was the highlight of the trip for my kids – they loved seeing the portraits of the wrestlers, especially the ones that featured their famous wrestling matches.Another fun display contained over a thousand musical instruments from all over the world ranging from ancient times to today. And, of course, it’s always a treat to see the regular collections – my personal favorite has always been the Impressionists.
